Job Announcement Type: Professorship in Buddhist Studies Institution: Faculty of Philosophy, University of Heidelberg Location: Heidelberg (Germany) Deadline: 12.4.2016 __________________________________________________ The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Heidelberg invites applications for a W3 professorship in Buddhist Studies. The professorship is part of the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) which has originated from the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context”. Applicants should be able to represent the full scope of Buddhist Studies both in research and teaching. Their interests should focus on processes of exchange between Buddhism and other religious groups within Asia and beyond. Such entanglements should be analysed in their contemporary social, political and cultural developments with a historical perspective. Substantial knowledge of two major languages of Buddhism is a prerequisite. Furthermore, applicants are expected to actively take part in the teaching (Master- and PhD-programme) and research (Digital Humanities) at the HCTS and to contribute to their further development in the Excellence Initiative. Prerequisites for application are a university degree and (in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the state of Baden-Württemberg) a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications.
