This is the first regular international conference organized by the
International Society of East Asian Philosophy. Its aim is threefold:
1) to enhance the research quality on East Asian philosophy, 2) to
provide a substantial international academic platform for East Asian
philosophy, and 3) to foster international collaborations for East
Asian philosophy. Further conferences are planning to be held in
different parts of the world.

While there is a very long history of philosophical tradition in East
Asia, philosophy was not recognized and developed as a discipline in
the academia until the late nineteenth century. Having shared the
innovative translation of the Greek origin term, philosophia given by
Nishi Amane, tetsugaku 哲学, philosophia has been transformed into
various forms in East Asia throughout the last two centuries.
Alongside the reception of and confrontation with Western philosophy,
a great amount of new philosophical discourse and traditions have
been consolidated in East Asia. It is, therefore, a timely and urgent
agenda to take a close look on them.

This conference welcomes proposals on all periods, themes, figures,
texts, concepts and perspectives on East Asian philosophy, as well as
comparisons between various traditions within and without East Asian
in the past, present and future. This conference specifically
encourages young scholars to submit their proposals.
