Call for Papers Theme: Social Solidarity and Social Development Type: International Conference Institution: Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences Council for Research in Values and Philosophy (RVP) Location: Hanoi (Vietnam) Date: 24.–25.7.2019 Deadline: 20.4.2019 __________________________________________________ United Nations Millennium Declaration (2000) recognizes Solidarity as one of the fundamental values of international relations in the 21st Century. Within a community or society, in terms of values, ideas, views, interests and norms, social solidarity can be understood as a binding force for cooperation of equal members to work together in order to achieve a common goal of social development. Solidarity is also a core principle of religious social teachings by emphasizing shared responsibilities and commitments to enable everyone to develop his or her own potentials and capacities. It is about the respect for and the promotion of human dignity and rights of each member in society. In the context of Vietnam, social solidarity has become the main driving force for the national development in the context of globalization and international integration, because it creates the joint aspirations and forces of different social strata and communities of the Vietnamese society. In terms of the multi-cultural and multi-religious situation, social solidarity has become the source of strength of many peoples and the decisive factor to guarantee the sustainable achievement of the Vietnamese social construction and to safeguard the Homeland of the Vietnamese people. In this light, we see the close relationship between social solidarity and social development. The Conference will have focus the following subtopics: 1. The relationship between social solidarity and social development 2. Social solidarity and social development in the multi-cultural context (cultural traditions) 3.
