here is the story on the Graphical Arts submission by Julien Favre - it is NOT a real
Cranes release. here is the story behind the submission, in Julien's words:
"...the image is a reworked, reframed version of one of the fake sleeves i've done for
a Belgian music fanzine called THE VIOLET HOURS back in the early nineties. the idea
was to drive collectors mad by reviewing, every week, one supposedly rare (but
actually imaginary) record from a cult band. i did three fakes of pseudo-Cranes
records, one being the basis for my
submission here. the design here is meant to imitate Cranes' gloomy look and feel
circa Fuse/Self-Non-Self. since our aim was to confuse collectors, the design is
falsely attributed to
Robert Coleman and there is a fake cat number, a fake tracklisting and a fake ugly
white sticker. also, the original illustration ain't my creation as it is a painting
from the XVth century but i reworked it extensively to get the texture, color and
framing right..."
hope this clears the air and everyone understands that the submission is NOT a real
Cranes release :)
