Hello Ytai,
Maybe you are right but how some of the chips endure being fed with 5v from 
3.3v ? It seems and sounds suprising but it is reality. Some of chips do 
not endure but some of them still work. It think it is not about feeding 
with 5v from 3.3v. It is not chip related issue. IOIO is not vulnerable for 
this issue. 
It is maybe due to changes in mains voltage...
