There is actually a lua binding to xosd around and I wrote my own before finding the other one, I'm partial to mine (for the obvious reasons, but also for some non-obvious ones).
My version is available from http://unreliablesource.net/luaxosd/. I actually also wrote some ion3 scripts to use the bindings (which is why I wrote them in the first place) that I have never gotten around to finally cleaning up and submitting. If people would find them useful I will work on that maybe tonight. -Etan
