No. And it doesn't make much sense to override; saving is needed for sane restart behaviour that will place the windows where they were. (Of course, one might use some X root window property too in this case.) The primary reason for the existence of resign() is also being able to quit the WM under a session manager (that supports remote exit) without shutting down and saving the entire session.
