I think the roadmap is currently "they will happen, sometime". There are no plans beyond that. The roadmap is composed of all the things that contributors want to do. I haven't seen anyone warm up to write any of the features you're talking about. We've discussed the new API and most people agree with the need for it, but we don't seem to have an uptake to actually do it. The same goes for tooling, especially an onboarding tool. This tool is actually the most likely to happen in the near term.
