Hi, I'm using both the server and the client. I've started the server and the server is listening on port 5001 (the default one). I'm iperf in pairs only. Iperf is designed to be used in pairs: one host is passive (accepts connections and acts according to settings from the other end) and the other host is client which sends commands to server. Q1 is using UDP which means client doesn't need any feedback from server. You can seemingly connect to server but you will never get any answer. The 'connection reset by peer' message might well origin from IP stack implementation and/or firewall which send diconnect message when there's no application to handle the incomming connection. Q2 uses TCP which means that server needs to respond actively to incomming connection. If there's no iperf running at far end, you obviously can not make any usable connection there. Peace!
