I have modified the iperf source to report smaller intervals and it's worked
well. I typically run with 10 milliseconds. What platforms are you using?

iPerf can report throughput in a step of 0.5 second. Can it use a even smaller
interval, such as in the order of 10ms? Is there any other tools which can
