Subject: Linux support in IPFilter
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi there Darren,... I hope this email finds you well.

A while ago (mid last year or so) I emailed the lists about getting IPFilter
to compile and work on a vanilla Linux kernel tree with little result
unfortunately. But that wasn't a major thing to that project,... would have
preferred to use IPFilter though.

I am currently starting a project with a company that needs two appliances
build,... one that is to act something like a Citrix Netscalar and another
that is to be a NAS device with massive storage scaling.
I would like to ensure that there is as much similarity between the
platforms as possible.

The NAS devices will be based on either FreeBSD+ZFS or OpenSolaris,
unfortunately however the Netscalar-ish device requires certain device
driver support that is only available in the Linux kernel at the moment (and
the foreseeable future).

How best can I assist the IPFilter team to ensure that you're rather
exceptional firewall code is easier to compile for whatever the latest
stable version of the Linux kernel is on kernel.org? (I always work from
pristine source and avoid custom patching at all cost.)

Regards,...
Ross Cameron
