As this is in a cluster is this message caused by the make file getting
the nodes confused or am I doing something wrong here.

Which file did you download to compile?
The latest is 4.1.15 from http://coombs.anu.edu.au/~avalon/ip_fil4.1.15.tar.gz

If you do this at the command prompt:
/bin/ls -1 /usr/sys/*/mach_assert.h | head -1

What is the result?
