Your slides are fast and smooth. I haven't looked at your code, as I'm only on my iPhone, but since you have it working nicely, have you tried simply adding say 40px top/bottom padding or margin to get the text to not render on top of your header/footer?
The left/right slide code I'm using on my div set to overflow is pretty slow when I have a full page of data w/Images. I'd like to check out what you've used. I like the sliding done on the facebook app, but it appears to only work right to left and only the whole screen.
