when i started i used various online iphone simulators

i then used iphoney on my flatmates mac to see how my initial pages were
displayed and then resized a safari browser on my pc or used a switching
agent on firefox

even then, in the end the only true way to see how web apps work is to
get an iphone - if you're going to develop web apps for the iphone you
need an iphone
