Has anyone worked with PhoneGap to build apps for the Japanese
market?

In particular, it appears that Apple has only 5% of the market share
there and the market is dominated by handsets and OSs that are only in
Japan.

Morgan Stanley shows the market breakdown as:

Sharp 26%
Panasonic 15%
Fujitsu 12%
Other 11%
Sony Ericsson 7%
Toshiba 6%
Kyocera 5%
Apple 5%

I've been unsuccessful finding a breakdown of the market by operating
system. But from what I've read, feature phones have such advanced
capabilities that smart phones don't sell as well in Japan.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether under the Sharp, Panasonic
and Fujitsu numbers I might found a large number of Symbian or Windows
Mobile devices that might be able to run PhoneGap-based apps. Or is
the market so dominated by Japan specific operating systems that
building something with PhoneGap won't reach a large number of
handsets in Japan.

Thanks,

Jason
