This is a good point, just look at the percentage of networked computers out
there running MS Windows (not to mention the proposed future of dish
washers, and other home appliances) and they all have a "Network
Neighborhood" option which will try to identify other computers either by
name or IP.

In these cases a simple switch or hub could be used.

Security inside the firewall is of less concern, but should still be a
consideration here.
