It was six years ago today that CHWO changed its frequency from 1250 to 740 and
its power increased to 50,000 watts.

As you know for many years, CBL occupied that frequency until they decided to
move to FM along with several other CBC outlets.

Although CHWO is not hard for most DXers to find, it is worth noting that they
have been on the air for 50 years as of November 16, 2006 and they are still
owned by the same group and are still doing the same format.

AM 740 appeals primarily to an audience of people age 50 and over but they are
still making money and are doing well in the ratings in Canada.

Despite the constant goal of appealing to a younger demographic which
continually goes on in radio, this station thrives and will continue to do so
for many years.

Happy anniversary AM 740.
