I guess I'm the only person who has ever had 6 bad wall warts and no bad
devices connected from them. If the wall wart can't supply enough current for
the load, the power light will not light BUT it will light with a lesser
current load.

I've said it three times, so I'll stop now.

Take the hard drive out of the casing, connect it directly to your computer
as if it were a regular internal HD.

This eliminates everything but the HD as a possible source of the problem.

Option 2 -

If the problem persists after Option 1 and you consider the data to be that
important, you have the option of obtaining an identical model HD,
establishing that the new HD works when directly connected to your computer
and then swapping the HD electronics boards over. This is not for the faint
of heart.

This eliminates the HD electronics as a possible source of the problem.

Option 3 -

If the problem persists after Options 1 and 2 are executed, chances are that
the problem is mechanical/electromechanical in nature and would require the
services of a data recovery house. That is an expensive proposition.

I can vouch for Options 1 & 2 personally. Option 3 I wouldn’t pay for.
