Stephen, This might be a pia for you to do but in building a super lightweight cw rig where the lightest weight is a bonus in contest sprints (Spartan Sprint) I scavenged the mono earplug from a cheap hands-free phone earpiece/mic set from Walmart. It is a foam covered earpiece that doesn't plug into the ear. However, my best performing earbuds are The Plug by Koss, but they plug into the ear with a tube extending almost to the end of the plug so that the sound is really channeled deep.
