I'm interested in the Sony SRF-M97. What were its pros and cons?

Subject: Re: [IRCA] Ultralight web site?

Hi all:

I have drafted up an Excel spreadsheet that attempts to survey the
possible choices out there. It has their features (size/weight, tuning
method , # memories) and a currently blank section for how they actually
perform in relation to one another. I can send what I have so far to you
if you drop me an email off-line (SATYA(at)SOUNDDSL.COM).

While scanning owner's manuals for features is easy, Gary's 2008 Shootout
will give us the real information we need - which one works the best for
our use?

For now, it seems the possible decent Ultralight choices are from Sony
(SRF-59, T615), Sangean (DT-120V/180V, 200VX, 210V, 220V and 300V), and
the CCrane SWP (aka Redsun RP-300), most of which will be represented in
the upcoming 2008 Shootout. Gary is taking extraordinary measures to make
sure he has well-aligned versions of these, which are unfortunately
proving to have various as-manufactured quality control issues. I also
have an Eton E100 (aka Tecsun PL-200) and a Sony SRF-39 coming that can be
thrown into the mix.

Various models have been tested by IRCAers (or others on the Web) and have
come up short for various reasons, such as the Kaito KA11, any Kchibo,
Sony S10MK2, Sony M-37V (unmodified), Radio Shack 12-467, Tecsun PL230 and
Sony M97.

If anyone knows of another model out there which is either worth testing
or a known turkey, or believes any of the above-mentioned units are in the
wrong category, please let me know!

Thanks - Kevin S.
