Nick, indeed I remember well, both the DX and the frozen orange juice (not to mention toes). Checked the log ,and 20 years ago this month we were out there. Logged 1575 with a modest signal on Oct 14th, and that same morning heard 4MK on 1026 Yes, hearing Japan was a big deal, though I see w did manage to hear the low power NHK synchros on 1584 (and I'd forgotten about the 3970 parallel we had on shortwave back then).
