My log for WHEB shows 11/20/71, 1645 and I'm sure it was a s/off.
I may have thought they were on late because their hours of
operation were limited by WSB. I seem to recall when I lived in
eastern MA that they went off after all the other daytimers in
the area. I wonder if Marc has any recollection of that.

They were one of the few stations who signed off or changed pattern depending on the clear channel station they were to protect. Sign off was at sunset at WSB, rather than locally. WTIC-1080 and WCKY-1530 go to night pattern at a later time for the same reason.

WHEB was quite listenable in Providence with a decent receiver, mostly because there was nothing else on 750 nearby. A kilowatt at the lower part of the band covers well.
