When the actress Maggie Smith was preparing for the filming of "The
Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" she needed to perfect her posh Edinburgh
accent. She phoned her aunt who lived in Morningside, a middle class
area of the city, and asked her if she could help in getting the accent
right. The aunt was most put out "Eccent! - ey don't heve en eccent!"
