Hello All,
While at the top of the Rockwork 4 sheer Oregon cliff (south of Cannon Beach)
at 1311 UTC on August 22 I recorded a signal on 531 kHz that was obviously from
Australia (the NZ stations on the frequency have much different formats). The
rock music signal was pretty strong (unlike most UnID signals), but there was
almost no information to provide any identity clues. A recording of the UnID
Australian pounding into the Oregon cliff with its rock music is posted at

Australia possibilities on the frequency, this was a real puzzle.
The only possible identity clue in the recording is a very brief, female-voiced
ID at :53 into the recording (in between classic rock songs) which sounds like
"War-ra-gul." For about the first 100 times that I listened to this mystery
recording the ID made no sense at all, and I was ready to give up the search.
Then yesterday I saw an Ultralight list post from Paul Blundell in Tasmania
with his recent loggings-- the first of which was 531-3GG in ***Warragul,***
Victoria! After checking the 531-3GG web site I found their program schedule,
which showed that the recorded music perfectly fit their "School of Rock"
program format for the recording time. So after 11 Pacific coast DXpeditions
and countless recordings of 531-UnID Australians (all of which are very
ID-averse), it's probably time to add the first one to the log book. Thanks,
