Asian signals were dramatically improved here this morning, with the Japanese
stations especially strong A couple of Japanese (531-JOQG and 1503-JOUK)
managed their best-ever signals here, and both Taiwan parallels (738-BEL2 and
1143-BEL3) were easily heard after the 1400 TOH. With potent Asian signals back
in force this morning, Nick must have had a blast at Gabriola Island on the BC
coast.
The Japanese big guns (594, 693, 747, 774, 828 and 1287) were vibrant at the
1315 start of the session, and stayed that way (in and out) right up until
1410. Unlike yesterday, the Korean big guns on 972 and 1053 were potent right
along with them, with 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA also having fair audio in and out.
Nick's "fun station" 972-HLCA had its usual huge signal around 1353 with
bizarre Karaoke practice, managing the best TP signal of the session.The
second-tier Korean parallels on 558 and 603 managed good audio in and out, with
603 especially strong around the 1400 TOH. The 10 kW Japanese NHK1 station
531-JOQG hit a fair peak at 1355 to reach its best-ever audio here, and
1503-JOUK did the same with an excellent signal (in and out) late around 1410.
Around 1403 the Taiwan parallels were easily matched with their Chinese
female-voiced news, with 738-BEL2 having good audio, and 1143-BEL3 having fair
(about as strong as it's ever managed here).
The only group which didn't seem to participate in the party this morning were
the Mainland Chinese stations, which seemed to be either anemic or missing in
action. Usually 603-China puts in some signal against HLSA, but not today. Both
the Chinese domestic stations (on 639, 756, 918, 927, 936, 981,1035 and 1593)
and the CRI stations (on 963, 1017 and 1044) never got very far out of the
noise this morning, which was a pretty stark contrast with the Japanese, Korean
and Taiwan stations. Neither 648-VOR or 657-Pyongyang were very vibrant,
either, apparently suffering from the same Asian mainland propagation funk. In
summary it was an excellent morning for the Japanese and Korean big guns, along
with many second-tier TP's from those countries. I'm pretty sure that Nick had
his hands full logging all the 5 kW Japanese stations showing up on the coast
:-)
