Thank you, everybody, for the suggestions. I'm going to go through each of them
and compare...
Some thoughts: I'm not huge on earbuds. The noise cancellation I'm thinking of
has served me more to block outside sound... say if I'm DXing and there's other
family members up, or the TV or stereo on...
And, BTW, these are really only intended for those moments when it's noisy
around me. I have a bunch of cheapies that I've either scored for free or for
less than $10. My faves are disposables I picked up that were going to be
disposed of after a conference where they were used for foreign language
translation. Unused, in sealed individual plastic bags. For whatever reason,
they're awesome (the only logo on them is TelAv, which was recording and
providing interpretation services for the conference). So, thank you for an
interesting range of suggestions...

Subject: Re: [mwdx] Headphones

I recently went looking to replace my falling apart Grundig headphones
- and have decided to keep them alive. Nothing out there is as
comfortable. Maybe something is lurking that I haven't come across yet.
(Kerry got me a pair of Sony noise-cancelling - but they're a pain on
the ears - too small).

I'm looking for a new set of headphones to replace
older ones that have fallen apart. My older ones cost around $100 a few
years ago and were noise-cancelling. Not the most comfortable on the
ears, but tolerable. Checking at The Source, Canada's version of Radio
Shack, I was I was shocked at the plethora of headphones available, and
the price - all over $300 (with noise cancellation).

At that price I can live without noise cancellation! But I am
floored by the sheer variety available at The Source, and also at
big-box chains like Best Buy and Future Shop.

Anyone have any favourites for DXing? I'm looking to spend $150
or less - optimally $50-$100 - and am looking primarily for comfort.
Some pairs I've tried squish the ears. Noise cancellation would be a
plus. There are times when I don't want outside distractions.

  Any recommendations?
