This new 1566 Chinese station is being heard at a strong level in Japan, mixing
with HLAZ (according to Hiroyuki Okamura), and it was also mixing with HLAZ at
a pretty strong level last week during my DXpedition at Ocean Shores,
Washington. Mauno Ritola says that a remote Perseus receiver in Japan also has
it at a strong level (signing off at 1601 UTC), making him think that the
transmitter power of the Chinese station is at least 100 kW. The frequency
choice of this new Chinese station is bizarre, since HLAZ's strong 250 kW
transmitter would presumably make the 1566 kHz frequency anything but clear in
eastern China.

Since 1566-HLAZ already has such a strong signal in east China, it seems
possible that this new Chinese station is really intended to be a "jammer," to
block HLAZ's Chinese Christian religious programs from the listeners in China.
The Chinese government doesn't approve of religious activities that it cannot
control. Although 1566-HLAZ was in a class by itself in signal strength last
week at Ocean Shores, the new Chinese station was giving it strong competition
at times.
