Amigos, I took my CCrane Skywave out on the deck tonight around 2115 EST, and heard the strange noise on 1500 that some are reporting. It was pretty faint behind WFED, but distinctly there, kind of high-pitched & rough like a steady bandsaw heard faintly from a great distance. What I have to contribute to the conversation is this: the signal very clearly DF'd almost perfectly east-west, and I sit right on the 40 deg N latitude line. So from my QTH, due west is Denver and due east is Philly. For what it's worth . . . does my DF data square with any of yours? You-all have much more sophisticated equipment/experience than I do.

A surprise can always surprise us..... The warble part is much stronger here, literally dominating the channel at times. At first, I too thought it might be local interference or QRM but after a few times listening to it, I can tell you that is not the case. It?s only audible via skywave, and seems to follow the gray line in terms of signal strength. While it?s audible well into the night (I checked against just after midnight last evening and it was still there) it?s much stronger around SSS. I?d guess somewhere in the Caribbean or Eastern US time zone (at most). Les Rayburn, N1LF Marlene, AL EM63nf Member WTFDA, IRCA, NRC.
