Thanks for your generous comments, Colin and Walt. Thanks also for your
comments, Mark.
<<<     Actually sitting outside to DX would seldom be necessary since antennas
are broadband in most cases. Even tuned antennas can be adjusted by varactor
diodes, coupled to a feedline, and then either directly fed to a receiver
inside the vehicle or coupled to it inductively.    >>>

It's certainly true that this style of live DXing isn't suitable for everyone,
Mark, but the untold part of the story (which isn't commonly shared by most
TP-DXers, including me) is that the large FSL antennas have demonstrated a
DU-DX reception advantage in side-by-side comparisons with much larger
broadband antennas on the lower MW frequencies (531, etc.) at ocean cliff
sites. There are several low-band DU's (531-More FM and 585-Radio Ngati Porou,
for example) that have been repeatedly received on FSL antennas at ocean cliff
sites but either very rarely or not at all with any broadband antennas
(anywhere on the west coast). As for varactor tuning, nobody has yet succeeded
in adapting the concept to FSL antennas without upsetting the antennas'
razor-sharp (High-Q) tuning system. This system provides the critical
single-optimized-frequency reception advantage that has given the FSL antennas
their relative success on the lower MW frequencies at ocean cliff sites.
