Scott, these are PIREPS. ie pilot reports about local weather. In AK, there are a number of NDBs with voice information. I've logged perhaps 10 or so of them. In those remote locations, pilot reports are highly valuable to aircraft following. Even down in the lower 48, PIREPS can be helpful. I've reported a few in the Victoria/San Juan area, when local weather comes through. 73, Walt
