I did have the noise problem with the radio, but found the regular hood mounted steel whip was loose. I tightened it down and suddenly the noise is gone, but the AM section is not very sensitive. A far cry from my 1997 or 1989. I think I will try to extend the whip a foot or two higher with some stiff copper wire and see if the gain increases. It looks like I can unscrew the whip as it looks threaded to the base. If that is the case, installing a longer whip might be the answer. It could be, the AM section is just poor. I know some car radios are terrible on AM. If that is the case, the only other answer is to replace the Stereo with something better like a Kenwood or Pioneer, but of course getting anything like that to perfectly fit the dash would not be easy probably. The Stereo uses a 2 din set up, so it would have to match up. Gone are the days when the radios were easy as you said. Everything is way to complicated in today's world. Thanks Karl.
