For those who have interest in exotic DU signals or who simply enjoy Polynesian
music, here are several of the most memorable recordings made during the Kona
DXpedition. Because these stations are all on or close to domestic frequencies
they are pretty tough to receive, even on the west coast. The experience of
receiving blowtorch signals from them was unforgettable.

540 2AP Apia, Samoa Over five minutes of Samoan worship music at overwhelming
strength, completely free of any Mainland QRM at 0931 UTC on April 9th. This
was the strongest performance of 2AP during the four day DXpedition, and except
for similar signals from 621-Tuvalu and 1440-Kiribati, would have been the
strongest DU recording made during the trip

621 Radio Tuvalu Funafuti, Tuvalu Potent level island music followed by the
standard sign off routine at 0953 on April 10th. Overall this was its best
performance during the trip, although it typically matched this level for a few
minutes each evening around 0900. The special feature of this memorable signal
was that it continued for over 8 minutes.

1440 Radio Kiribati Bairiki, Kiribati Typical Polynesian music is followed by
the usual female announcer, who shows a Mainland Spanish pest who is boss by
completely drowning him out around 0932 on April 11. The sign off routine
follows, including a blistering 1000 Hz tone right before power is cut off at
0936 (seemingly ideal for Mainland DXers looking for an identity clue)
