Marcos whats the point in getting the press involved? Everyone who trains in Ireland
knows about the Open, and every other major comp that goes on around here and fencing
isnt exactly a mainstream sport and wont be for a some time. I cant see the
annoucnment of a fencing comp being headline and enticing news to be honest

Yes it needs new energy, but mostly it need new blood. Every comp I see the same old
heads in the same old categories. We need new fencers, it will take time for them to
establish a decent level of competance but eventually they will be the next generation
of fencers.

We need more clubs, by all standards Irish comps are small time and the costs for
coming over here are enormous.

Also new styles of fencing, the dual epee was a great idea, even fencing in its fast
and furious state can get a bit repetitive.

Why isnt the IAFF on the case? Providing grants to existing clubs to expand their
ability to attract and train new fencers? Launching their own programmes and
initiatives to promote popularity?

Sure we can deck out the place in blinding colours and groovy posters but whats the
point? Sure it'll be pretty and give the girls something to chat about, but will it
increas the popularity of the comp? Unlikely?
What will you ask? Clubs encouraging its members to attend the comps. I see so few
Trinity entries at most comps, even UCD has a handful most the time as well.

If the comps were free it would be a lot more enticing.

It took far too long to write this, im off my head on anti biotics and havent slept in
ages and i feel miserable, good night folks and thanks for coming out.
