There are discussions on jruby-dev about "null casting", and it's a useful interop feature that IronRuby should support as well. Though there is a work-around, it's fairly ugly. We've made overload selection from IronRuby a bit nicer than having to resort to reflection, but it'd be interesting to drill into this further.
