Hey folks,
Hope everyone has made new friends and is coping well
with the fast-paced life here in uni.
Here's some interesting and useful
information about ISD's website and online mailing lists.
Please take some time to read it.
Cheers

Contact details (Name and contact number and/or email at which
potential buyers can contact you)
Please remember to send advertisements to [EMAIL PROTECTED]. DO NOT mail to our e-mail

E-mail Lists
In response to numerous complaints received
over the past few months, ISD 2004 has decided to make some changes to our
mailing lists. Is-isd and is-noticeboard
will CEASE to exist with effect from this weekend. All addresses
on our existing is-isd and
is-noticeboard e-mail lists will be migrated to a
new list -- isd-discussion. In addition, we will be
setting up a brand new mailing list -- isd-forum.
This is to allow us to have better moderator control and prevent excessive
e-mails and spamming clogging your systems. Please refer below for further
description of the functions of the 2 new mailing lists.
There is no need for students to
personally unsubscribe from the existing lists as this will be done by
ISD. Please note that instructions on how to automatically
unsubscribe from any UNSW mailing list (including the
new isd-discussion and
isd-forum) are detailed below. Do take note of them as
ISD is usually unable (due to practical reasons) to entertain e-mails with
instructions to remove addresses from these lists.
Also, it is important to remember the
Rules set out below when using any of the ISD mailing lists. The Rules
are to ensure that, as far as possible, a harmonious and non-threatening
environment is maintained for the benefit of all students. While we at ISD wish
to encourage and promote free discussion, we ask that you be sensitive
to others!
We hope that the revamp will better benefit all
international students. Please feel free to approach us with any comments and
suggestions.
Objective of mailing lists
To promote multi-cultural understanding among all
students in UNSW.
To aid and facilitate free discussion.
ISD-Discussion
Isd-discussion serves as
a platform for students to discuss issues pertaining to student life here
in Sydney. For example, you may be experiencing difficulties using certain
facilities or with certain courses. You may want to know about the best
places to shop or party. You may wish to find out which suburbs in
Sydney are the best to live in. This is the best place to seek (and
dispense) advice, air your concerns, or just to get to know your fellow
international students! However, advertisements such as selling of
textbooks will not be permitted.
ISD-forum
Isd-forum serves as ISD's main
platform to reach out to international students. Through this list, we will
announce any important or upcoming University events. Important security alerts
will also be posted on this list.
Unless permission is sought from ISD no student
posting will be allowed.
Unsubscribing
You may unsubscribe from any mailing list
that originates from UNSW.
1) Send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
2) Leave the subject line blank.
3) In the body, type 'unsubscribe <name of
mailing list>' without the inverted commas.
4) Ensure that that there are no other
words, such as e-mail signatures, in the message.
5) Send.
For example if you wish to unsubscribe from
isd-discussion, type 'unsubscribe isd-discussion' (without the inverted
commas) in the body of the message and send.
Rules:
1) Kindly keep all emails written in English.
Our computers may not be able to read characters of other languages.
It is also culturally insensitive to write in a
language that only an exclusive group can understand. An exception to this
rule is that if the message, with an English translation, is first
sent to ISD at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] seeking permission to post
the message .
2) Students who wish to post
large attachments such as pictures should first send the e-mail to ISD
stating clearly that the message is meant for the mailing list.
3) Students should avoid forwarding e-mails that
are of little relevance to the subscribers. E-mails of offensive nature,
including those with vulgar language are not permitted. Repeated offenders may
be unsubscribed without notice.
4) All other University by-laws
governing mailing lists apply.
ISD and UNSW reserve the right
to alter the rules at any time without notice.
