Islamic Relief’s Night for a Million

 

 

Islamic Relief, a UK based charity with global reach, has launched a campaign to raise £10 million to support the relief and reconstruction efforts in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. More than £6 million has been raised so far to aid victims of the Tsunami which struck on 26th December 2004.

 

Islamic Relief is holding a fundraising dinner on 26th January 2005, exactly one month from the date of the disaster, to raise over £1million in one night. The Dinner will be held at the Sheraton – Park Lane, commencing at 6pm. Invited guests include prominent members of the British Muslim community, parliamentarians, members of the Church, ambassadors from around the world as well as representatives of various humanitarian agencies.   

 

Dr Hany El Banna OBE, President of Islamic Relief, has just returned from a fact finding mission to Banda Aceh and Sri Lanka. Commenting on his visit, he stated what he witnessed in Aceh had no comparison to any event in the recent past.

 

Dr El Banna will present an exclusive update on the crisis with latest information on Islamic Relief’s humanitarian efforts for the victims of the Tsunami.

 

Islamic Relief is committed not only to the immediate emergency relief effort but also to the long term rehabilitation of the devastated communities.
