Khatami: Dialogue between Islam, Christianity unavoidable Beirut, Dec 3, IRNA Lebanon-Dialogue- Khatami Former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami here on Friday evening stressed that dialogue among civilizations and religions, particularly between Islam and Christianity, is unavoidable. Addressing a large number of Lebanese scholars, cultural figures and religious leaders, he said dialogue among religions can end misunderstandings in today's world. Dialogue among religions, particularly between Islam and Christianity, aimed at resolving regional and world problems, can prove to be of great use to researchers, writers and journalists in their work, the Iranian scholar noted. Life in this contemporary age will be a lot simplified through dialogue and exchange of experiences, Khatami, who first proposed the concept of `Dialogue among Civilizations', said. Khatami further expressed the hope that the world will get to witness efforts toward peace, justice and freedom for all instead of inequality, war and discrimination in the near future. At the end of his speech, Khatami answered some questions on issues pertaining to Islam and Iran as well as on the idea of `Dialogue among Civilizations' raised by participants in the meeting. Khatami arrived in Beirut from Mallorca, Spain on Wednesday to attend a gathering on human development from the viewpoint of different religions as well as discuss the thoughts of kidnapped Lebanese Shiite leader Imam Mousa Sadr. Imam Mousa Sadr was kidnapped during an official visit to Libya on August 31, 1978. His whereabouts have not been known since then. While in Spain's Palma de Mallorca Island, Khatami attended the first session of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's high-level group tasked with promoting an `Alliance of Civilizations' between the West and the Islamic World. |

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)
{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)
The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]
The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
