Assalam alaikum,

Amongst the beliefs held by pagan Arabs, those before them and dare I
say even those after them was the belief that Prophets and Messengers
were angels. This false belief is refuted by Allah Almighty in the
Quran with the following three verses:

Allah Almighty said, "Jesus, son of Mary, was no more than a
Messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him: His
mother was a truthful believer. They both used to eat food."
[Quran 5: 75]

Allah Almighty continued to say, "And We never sent before you any of
the Messengers, but verily, they ate food and walked in the markets."
[Quran 25:30]

And Allah Almighty said, "And We created them with bodies that ate
food, and they were not immortals."
[Quran 21:8]

When some people claimed that the Prophets and Messengers were angels
form heaven, Ibn Abbas cited the above verse and then said, '(So) They
were not from among the residents of heaven (i.e. angel) as you claimed.'
[Ad-Dur al-manthur 4:595]

The importantce of this message is to remind us that despite the Godly
mission of bringing the truth or reaffirming the truth of Islam, the
Prophets and Messengers were still human beings. Angels have their own
category, as do Jinn.

May Allah Almighty have mercy and guide us all, ameen.
