The story of Mosque = Mosquito is an URBAN LEGEND,
please help stop the spread of falsehoods such as this.
Etymological study of 'mosque' finds that it is the natural distortion of 'Masjid' as one moves across the Mediterranian. Egyptians tend to say 'mazgid', in Italy this becomes 'masca', in Spain this finally becomes 'mosque' which is how it entered English.
No one knows where the 'mosquito' story originated, but it was spread far and wide by being incorrectly reported in "The Complete Idiots Guide to Islam"

These words have different meaning
Mosque = mosquitoes
MECCA = The house of Wine
Mohd = "A dog which has a big mouth

Its been observed that most of us write "MOSQUE" for "Masjid" and even calling it as Mosque in daily outine, what elders and teachers say that the word "MOSQUE" means the house of mosquitoes not Masjid. In an Era, when Muslims were becaming Islam and spreading very fastly, an Italian (Spanish) non-muslim Leader said ''Muslims are spreading like mosquitoes". So better be careful next time instead of writing mosque, u can write MASJID it doesn't matter.Mostly we have seen the spelling of MAKKAH as MECCA . The word MECCA means "Sharab Khaana / The house of Vine ". So lets all of us be careful of writing MECCA.
Many people whose names start with Muhammed, write in a short form as "Mohd". This "Mohd " means "A dog which has a big mouth". Please don't use Mohd in future .
