ZIONAZIS BOMBARD BEIRUT CIVILIANS WITH DEATH-THREAT MESSAGES Now Israel bombards Beirut with death-threat messages Chris Hughes In Beirut Daily Mirror 10 August 2006 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=17538669%26method=full%26siteid=94762%26headline=middle%2deast%2dwar%2d%2dphoney%2dwar%2d-name_page.html
BEIRUT citizens are being bombarded with mobile phone messages issuing death threats towards Hizbollah's leader. Israeli intelligence patch them through on a recorded loop saying: "We will kill Hassan Nasrallah." The chilling threats are an attempt to persuade residents that they are not the target of the bombs. The psychological warfare tactic comes as Israel decided yesterday to expand its ground offensive in Lebanon - which could last 30 days. Mobile owners who have received threats say the number is untraceable and does not appear on the screen. The message says: "Hassan Nasrallah is an evil man and we are going to kill him. We are not trying to kill you - it is only him we are after. "He is not going to win. We are going to win." But a 32-year-old Beirut restaurant worker said: "Support for Nasrallah has not gone down in recent days. It is increasing with every bomb." He added: "I have received several of these calls on my mobile phone from a recorded message which tells me Nasrallah will be killed. "We know the voice sounds like an Israeli voice and we believe the calls are recorded and made as propaganda for the war." Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's security cabinet yesterday authorised a move to send soldiers further into Lebanon, possibly to the Litani river, up to 13 miles from the border, to strike at Hizbollah and halt its rocket attacks. A senior Israeli political source said: "`The military presented its timetable, saying it needed at least 30 days. This was endorsed by the cabinet." The decision puts pressure on major powers struggling to win agreement on a United Nations resolution. But Israeli officials assured diplomats that the army would halt the wider campaign if an agreement was reached at the UN. As the Israeli ground force pushed deeper into Lebanon, 11 soldiers were killed in rocket attacks and fierce clashes with Hizbollah. Israeli planes bombed targets across Lebanon. Five people died in a raid in the Bekaa Valley town of Mashghara. Two people, including an 11-year-old boy, were killed in air strikes on a Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon. US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Israel had a right to defend itself from Hizbollah. But Washington was concerned about the humanitarian situation. He added: "Israel must take the utmost care in avoiding civilian casualties." There has been mounting pressure in Israel to strike harder against Hizbollah, which has proved unexpectedly resilient against the Middle East's most sophisticated army. A poll showed 93 per cent of Israelis believe the campaign in Lebanon was justified, even if it inflicted suffering. Diplomats are still working on a UN resolution to end the war, but no Security Council vote seems imminent. At least 1,005 people in Lebanon and 101 Israelis have been killed so far.
