Subject: Re: Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Fatwa on Dr.Zakir Naik

Dear Brother, Assalaam Alaikum w r w b

This mufti is misleading.

Dr. Zakir Naik has never claimed himself to be a Scholar. Whenever, he is asked a question on Fiqh, he says, ask the scholar in Fiqh. He is not in the business of giving fatwas at all. He humbly calls himself a student of comparative religion.

He is not a disciple of Shaikh Deedat (I wonder why the Mufti has chosen to use the word Disciple) and was never trained by him. But he drew inspiration from the work of Ahmed Deedat in exposing the fraud of the christians and making muslims more aware about their own religion in a comparative sense. May Allah reward him in abundance.

You can get more information about Dr. Zakir Naik on the web site irf.net. If you are based in bombay, than it would be best to visit him at IRF office in Tandel street, Dongri. Dr. Zakir Naik conducts an open house every sunday where you can meet and talk to him and clarify all your doubts.

Ma'assalaam

I want to know fatwa you have given for Dr. Zakir Naik. Please mail me that fatwa as early as possible. In fact I could not understand the faith and belief of Dr. Zakir Naik. I don't know to whome (to Which Imam) he is following. No doubt he is genious and brilliant and doing something for islam and muslims.

Text Answer

You will have to ask him about which Imam he follows. However, based on what people have told us, after making enquiries from him, we can only say, that on various Islamic issues he is not a person about whom we can be confident. On matters relating to Christianity, its precepts and practices, he has been placing strong counter arguments to the Christian faith, based on what he has learnt as a disciple of Ahmed Deedat. He has put in a lot of effort in this direction. But if he feels confident about what he says on the Christian religion, it does not necessarily mean that he has got the right to comment on other issues also. His “fatwas” that have come to our knowledge, are not correct. It seems that he does not follow any Imam. He is a type of person who could be termed as a “non-conformist” to any school of Islamic jurisprudence.
