Some of the scholars have the opinion that the base of these groups consist of eight groups. And some of them stated that the greatest firqa of Islam are eight. The reason for this is that there is no evidence in deen to prove that this number is definite. Without exceeding or lacking the number of these groups being 73, reason is not sufficient.
