Shaykh Afifi will be teaching The Creed of Imam Al-Sanusi in Banbury

knowledge with one of the UK leading scholars Shaykh Afifi al-Akiti.
     
  Shaykh Afifi will be teaching The Creed of Imam Al-Sanusi -Al-Aqidah 
Al-Sanusiyya on the last Friday of every month at 8.15pm -9.15pm at Shifa 
School, Merton Street, Banbury, OX16 4RP. 
   
  The programme will begin on Friday 29 February 2008 and is part of the sacred 
sciences programme which also includes lessons with Shaykh Tanveer on 
'Transgressions of the Limbs' which takes place every Friday at 7-8pm at Shifa 
School.

The book "Matn Umm al-Barahin", or "The Text of the Mother of Proofs" 
(al-`Aqidah al-Sanusiyya) 
   
  Author:        
Imam Abu `Abdullah Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Sanusi al-Husayni al-Maliki, who was 
born around 830 of the Hijrah calendar, or about 600 years ago. He was a man of 
encyclopaedic knowledge in many fields, including the sciences of belief, 
jurisprudence, Prophetic Traditions, logic, and the Qur'an, and he wrote books 
on all of them. He was the head of the scholars in Tilmisan (Tlemsen), a 
capital of North Africa in Islamic history. It is located in what is Algeria 
today. 
   
  Biography:     
Shaykh Afifi al-Akiti is a Research Fellow in Islamic Philosophy and Theology 
at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. He has completed his doctoral thesis 
at Oxford University, on a newly discovered Arabic manuscript of a previously 
unknown theological work by Imam al-Ghazali. He was born in Malaysia and 
educated in various madrasas with a long tradition in Shafii fiqh in East Java.
   
  Among his most well known teachers are: 


  Shaykh Muhammad Yasin al-Fadani,
Shaykh Ibn Mahfuz al-Hajini,
Shaykh Ibn Ashmuni al-Jaruni
and Habib 'Aydarus al-Habshi.
   
  He has translated various works in Malay as well as English; mostly textbooks 
that make up the curriculum of a Classical Islamic education, including Imam 
al-Bajuri's commentary on the Jawhara, Imam Nawawi al-Bantani on the Jami'a and 
his commentary on the Bidaya of Imam al-Ghazali. He has travelled widely, and 
notwithstanding the specific ijazas from his training, has also received 
general ijazas (for tabarrukan) from teachers beyond his homeland.
