Abie Dawjee: Israel -- the 60 year secret

Column : View from the South

14th May, 2008   Fact International Weekly  (Jordan)

A small and highly secretive group of Israelis has been operating within the
Israeli political and military establishment for many decades with the aim
of undermining the security of the state, leading to its eventual demise. The
group decided to reveal its plans today, the 14th of May, because it believes
that Israel's 60th birthday is a historic turning point marking the beginning
of the end of Israel. This, they say, is a direct result of
their clandestine work -- mission accomplished, so to speak. However they
cannot reveal their names as they fear possible Vanunuesque consequences. The
group calls itself Netzach One.

Members of Netzach One subscribe to the view that Judaism and Zionism are not
compatible. Hence they consider the creation of the state of Israel as an act
of extreme blasphemy and therefore many of them have worked for much of their
lives to bring to an end this misguided project. They are deeply
embedded in Israel's power structures and are well aware that they work under
very danger conditions. They meet rarely, and then too, in great secrecy.

They were deeply perturbed when Israel was established. Ironically, they were
inspired to embark on their hazardous mission by the words of David Ben
Gurion who in 1948 said: "We must do everything to insure they (the
Palestinians) never do return." In assuring his fellow Zionists that the
Palestinians will never come back to their homes he said, "The old will die and
the young will forget." The answer to the problem of how to end Israel's
existence lay in the words: '...and the young will forget.' At 6 p.m. on 14th
May 1948 Ben Gurion announced the creation of the state of Israel. Eleven
minutes later US president, Harry Truman, declared that he recognized this new
state. Within a year Israel was welcomed by the United Nations because 'Israel
is a peace-loving nation.' Full diplomatic relations were established with most
western countries in a short space of time. The Arab countries held off but
later some signed peace agreements. Israel's economy was booming and it was
steadily acquiring increased respectability within the global community of
nations. Israel was firmly entrenching itself and the bloody past of its
creation was slowly becoming a distant memory. The Palestinian refugees would,
over time, be like the Red Indians...a foot-note in history. The old would die
and the young would forget. Netzach One was formed. This small group of highly
motivated individuals knew they had to act very fast. If Israel was allowed to
quietly consolidate its position on the world's stage that would be
disastrous. Netzach One had to ensure that the young Palestinians and Arabs
must never forget. Israel must commit acts of such extreme barbarity that the
level of anger in the region must be constantly maintained or heightened.

The first project of Netzach One was to orchestrate a push for war within the
Israeli cabinet against neighbouring countries and thereby annex more
Palestinian land. Thus, the Six Day War of 1967. Netzach One pushed for a large
scale settlement project that would displace Palestinians, demolish their homes
and uproot their olive trees. Hundreds of checkpoints would quite needlessly
humiliate them. This was hugely successful. The media was allowed full access
to broadcast the suffering of the Palestinian people to the world. That was a
brilliant stroke of genius. Dozens of Arab channels showed scenes of women
giving birth at checkpoints and people dying in ambulances that were not
allowed to pass through. The resistance was dealt with harshly. Helicopter
gunships and tanks killed civilians. Children were killed. Children were
imprisoned.

Netzach One pulled off a big one: the Wall. Communities were decimated.
Children couldn't make it to school. Farmers were cut off from their lands.

Lebanon is called 'the Paris of the Middle East'. Many Lebanese are very
westernized. There is a very large Christian community and many Druze and
Sunnis who also look westwards. It would have been easier for Israel to form
close relations with Lebanon than any other Arab country. But Netzach One was
not going to allow this to happen. In 1982 they engineered a move that was
bound to create huge animosity. Beirut was surrounded by the Israel army under
Sharon and mercilessly bombed for six weeks. 18,000 people were killed. To
compound the situation Sabra and Shatila were attacked. Just when these
atrocities were being forgotten by the Lebanese people, a new war was launched
in 2005. Lebanon was bombed for 33 days. Netzach One had to work hard at this
because there was no compelling reason to attack Lebanon and in any case the
Israeli army was not ready for such a mission. The level of anger in Lebanon
against Israel has never been as high as it is now.

Recently there were some peace overtures by Israel towards its arch-enemy,
Syria. There was talk of handing over the Golan. The next step could possibly
mean normalization. Netzach One sprang into action. Israeli warplanes flew into
Syria and bombed a disused building. That put paid to any detente.

Netzach One's pet project has been the regular threats against Iran. Picking on
Iran's non-existent nuclear weapons and following through with sanctions by the
US Congress and the UN has really riled the Persians. They are now ready to
'wipe out the Zionist entity.' Hillary Clinton's 'we will obliterate Iran' has
raised the temperature to boiling point.

Netzach One has not revealed many details about how it executes its plans.
However it is known that when hardline Israeli leaders go soft they are
targeted in various ways. Rabin the supreme peace-maker had to go. Peres took
over and was also talking peace. The Qana massacre set him back considerably.
He was followed by Netanyahu, the right-winger, who, quite incredibly gave back
Hebron to the Palestinians. He didn't last long. Barak went to Camp David to do
a deal with Arafat. Netzach One had to pull out all stops. They got Sharon to
walk into Al Aqsa and this triggered the Intifada. This brought Sharon into
power. He made the fatal mistake of pulling the settlers out of Gaza. After him
came Ehud Olmert. He seemed to be a tough guy -- going after Hamas, bombing
Lebanon and now starving Gaza. But he has started to go soft. He is regularly
talking to the Arabs and his Foreign Minister was the star at the Qatar meeting
recently. He wants to remove some of the West Bank settlements. Netzach One dug
up some dirt on his dealings with a US businessman. The calls for him to resign
are getting louder. Netanyahu is waiting in the wings to take over. He has
promised to bomb Iran immediately. That should generate enough hatred to last a
good few years.

The revelations of this secret group have answered many questions about
Israel's strange behaviour over the years. Why was it hell bent on antagonizing
the Arab world so much? Why did it slowly and systematically bomb Arafat's
headquarters? Why did it kill Shaikh Yassin when it knew that a wheelchair-
bound man could be easily apprehended? Everything makes total sense now that we
know that a third force was operating to engineer these acts in order to ensure
that the flames of hatred against Israel are constantly stoked and kept alive.
If this revelation had not emerged today, people would still be left wondering
why Israel constantly shoots itself in the foot -- why does it commit acts that
are counterproductive? Why has it been on a path of self-destruction?

Netzach One still has some work to do. But its successes have been
considerable. The level of antipathy towards Israel around the world is growing
dramatically. These days the speculation among commentators both within and
outside of Israel is not about whether Israel's existence will come to an end,
but when.

Netzach One has much to celebrate on the occasion of Israel's 60th birthday.
