Islamic Circles Presents:

FREE WEEKLY WALK-IN COUNSELLING AND MEDIATION SERVICES

Date and time: By appointment only
Venue: Froud Centre, Romford Road, Manor Park, London, E12 5JF

This service has been organised due to the increasing number of social
problems within the Muslim community and the pitiful lack of support
from mosques and Muslim organisationsin addressing such issues. The sessions

and sisters will be available. We hope to offer a confidential and professional
service to all Muslims with concerns ranging from personal, social, family or
academic worries to longer term, often more complex, psychological problems.
Attendees will benefit from a one-to-one service.

We will also be joined by the Muslim Mediation Service* who will be offering
one-to-one drop in sessions with a Muslim Mediator, where you can discuss any
matters arising from any conflicts you are experiencing within the home or
the community free of charge.

*The Muslim Mediation Service has been resolving family and community conflicts
since 2003. Their trained and experienced Mediators have been supporting
individuals,
parents and children and couples facing disputes by working with them to resolve
their issues through listening, understanding and communicating effectively.

Please note that the initial session will be free and if the person requires
further
help then they would need to contact alternative services or the individual

BANGLADESHIS, ISLAM, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY

"Dr Santi Rozario was born and brought up in Bangladesh and is a
social anthropologist. She is currently conducting research about
Bangladeshi Muslims and their views of marriage, gender relations and Islam.
She is looking to interview participants who would be willing to share their
views on such matters. Interviews may be conducted in group discussions
or individually.

The remits of her research is briefly outlined below:

The project is with young Bangladeshis, Islam, marriage and family. We use
the term 'young' loosely: basically we are looking for young Muslim
Bangladeshis,
either married or unmarried, divorced or separated, couples with small children
or without children, individuals in polygamous relationships and so on. We are
not stipulating age group as such, but the idea is to talk to individuals at
least
above 18, preferably those who have been thinking about marriage (even if only
dreaming about it!), and those who have already married, or those who married
and divorced or separated. We would like to ask questions regarding the impact
of Islam generally in the arena of romance, marriage, gender relationships
(after marriage); also as young people plan to get married what are they really
expecting from their spouse? Do they have ideas about a proper Islamic family
life (as contrasted, perhaps, with 'traditional' Bangladeshi Islam)? Do they
have ideas about Western society as morally corrupt and Islamic society as
preferable?

Of course, we are also interested in the impact of Hollywood, Bollywood,
magazines, films, TV shows and so on. But Islam is the main factor, and
even for the relatively 'secular' oriented Muslims, we will look for ways
the new Islamic revivalism or global Islam vs West disputes have impacted
upon their lives, specially in the arena of marriage, family and gender
relationships. We will be conducting some research in some of the main
cities in the UK, including London, Birmingham, or wherever interesting
individuals turn up!

If you are interested in taking part you can either contact Santi Rozario
directly or contact her through me. Santi's email address
is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; her numbers are 078 7567 6441
or 029 20641241."
