** *Q- Whoever missed some fasts during Ramadan for a valid reason, then is he required to make up the (missed) fasts consecutively, or is it permissible for him to split them up?* A- It is permissible to split them up when making them up, because the Aayah does not stipulate it be done consecutively, rather, Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'ala) has mentioned in that regard that which indicates the permissibility of making up (the missed fasts) by splitting them up. However, that which is preferable is that they be made up consecutively, since this is the true essence behind making up (the missed fasts), because the days which were missed were consecutive, so likewise they should be made up consecutively. – Sheikh Ibn Jibreen, Fataawa Ramadan - Volume 2, Page 656, Fatwa No.660, Fataawa as-Siyaam - Page 125 *Q- Is it permissible to make up missed fasts of Ramadan on Thursday and Friday or not?* *A-* Whoever missed any fasts of Ramadan, then it is permissible to make up (the missed) fasts on both Thursday and Friday and likewise offer voluntary fasts (on both these days). However, that which is prohibited is to single out Friday by fasting a voluntary fast. – The Permanent Committee, Fataawa Ramadan - Volume 2, Pages 657-658, Fatwa No.663, Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa.imah lil-Buhooth al-`Ilmiyyah wal-Iftaa. - Fatwa No.11810 *Q- A man has fasts from Ramadan to make up, (so) is it permissible for him to split the fasts up (rather than fast them all consecutively)?* *A-* Yes, it is permissible for him to make up that which is required of him by splitting them up over a number of days, due to the saying of Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'ala): {...and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe fasts must be made up] from other days...}, *[Soorah al-Baqarah, Aayah 185* ...and He (Subhaanahu wa Ta'ala) did not stipulate for them to be made up consecutively. – The Permanent Committee, Fataawa Ramadan - Volume 2, Pages 661-662, Fatwa No.667, Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa.imah lil-Buhooth al-`Ilmiyyah wal-Iftaa. - Fatwa No.6422 *Q-* *What are the best days for voluntary fasting and the best months for discharging the zakah?* * * *A*- The best days for voluntary fasting are: • Monday and Thursday (of every week); • The 13th, 14th and 15th days of each lunar month; • The 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, and particularly the Day of 'Arafah; • The 10th day of Muharram ('Aashooraa) in addition to fasting the day before it or the day after it; • Six days during the month of Shawwaal.
