Officials in the Town of Waterford Sanitary District No. 1 are interested in
using updated technology to address a series of perceived deficiencies.
At last month’s district meeting, WSD commissioners discussed contracting with
a firm to back-up the district’s files, perhaps through a cloud method that
would result in off-site storage and eliminate the need for servers and other
large infrastructure.
Dan Dickinson, who chairs the commission, said an upgrade could yield cost
efficiencies and result in better Internet connections.
“A server is really no longer needed with the technology that is available
today,” Dickinson noted.
WSD’s existing hardware system is considered antiquated. It was installed in
2001 and, according to staff members, could be vulnerable to security attacks.
As time moves on, the existing software and hardware will not be compatible
with new products aimed at eliminating security threats.
