Security vendor Trend Micro has embiggened its industry collaboration
credentials this week after helping Taiwanese police arrest one man in
connection with a widespread targeted attack, and teaming up with Interpol
on a new cyber crime prevention centre.
The targeted attack in question used the notorious Ghost remote access
Trojan (RAT) to steal data from thousands of individuals and SMBs,
according to the vendor.
Using classic email spear phishing techniques, the attacker tricked users
into clicking on a malicious link in an email pretending to come from the
Taiwan Bureau of National Health Insurance.
This would take them to a separate site and automatically download a
legitimate looking RAR file.
