I have a customer who is trying to sell 2 Ascend 6096's w/4T1's and 96 56K V.90 modems on 16 port slot cards. They are both new, sealed in original Ascend boxes. I checked my price with Ingram-Micro and with my little discount the will gladly sell me one for a little over $27,000.00. It seems that the selling price for these used on the list is somewhere between $12,000.00 and $16,000.00. I also have a customer looking for 2 of this exact same Ascend unit. I offered to sell him one that I can buy from Trey at Millennium for $11,900.00 (substantially less than other prices I've seen). I bumped the price 15% and my "END USER" thanks for trying but I can buy a new one when ever I need it for a few thousand more. I probed my customer further and was told that he can buy from distribution for $18,500.00. I told him that $5000.00 seemed a pretty substantial savings to me but he wasn't impressed. I never did get a buy price for a used one from him. How can anyone buy a piece of hardware "NEW" for $18,500.00 when I have to pay over $27,000.00 for it from a distributor. It seems that this must be true because I talked to several dealers on the list about the new ones my customer ( the one selling not the one buying) is trying to sell and they told me the price is too high. I hope I have thoroughly confused everyone because I am. Does anyone know who or if any distributor sells Ascend 6096's for $18,5000.00? I guess this is why I don't sell much Ascend.
