I have a similiar issue, when trying to download from siteprotector, sometimes it work (rarely) and the most does not, but I can download succesfully every update using manual upgrader in the same box than my SiteProtector.. I have checked and recheked my proxy settings, and everything is configured ok. I can see than more than one have similar issues.
